Images circulating on social media show the moment the man climbs onto a structure that provides access to the roof of the enclosure and enters the animal's space . The lioness followed the man all the way to the entrance of the cage and, the moment he entered, lunged and attacked him by the neck, causing his death. The animal did not feed on the victim, only carried out the attack. Zoo staff restrained the lioness to allow the Military Police to enter the area and begin investigation procedures. Forensic experts went to the scene to conduct all necessary assessments. In a statement, the João Pessoa City Hall, through the Department of the Environment (Semam), reported that "in a quick and surprising manner, the man climbed a wall more than 6 meters high, bypassed the security fences, accessed one of the trees, and entered the enclosure. Although security teams attempted to prevent the action, the man acted quickly to access the enclosure and died as a result of injuries inflicted by the animal. As soon as the incident was discovered, the park was immediately closed for security procedures and removal of the body. Semam has already begun investigating the circumstances of the event and is cooperating with the competent authorities."
