Two others were injured — the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) chairman and SK secretary. Police identified the victims as Raul Atarde Ballos, 56, barangay chairman; Jose Lagones, 65, barangay kagawad; and Marvin Canete, 54, barangay kagawad, all of Barangay Salitran 3 in Dasmariñas City, Cavite. The shooter, identified only as Ariel, died after shooting himself, said LtCol. Regino Oñate. Initial investigation showed that the shooter struck while the flag ceremony was underway, approaching the barangay captain from behind and shooting him at close range. He also shot and killed the councilors next to him. The suspect shot himself with the same short gun used in the crime. The victims were taken to various hospitals, where they were declared dead on arrival, except for the SK chairman, who remained in critical condition. The suspect was also taken to St. Paul Medical Center but was also declared dead on arrival. Regional director BGen. Paul Kenneth Lucas immediately ordered a thorough investigation to determine the motive behind the crime. This was the second consecutive major killing in the province in two days. On Saturday, a 48-year-old father and known supporter of Naic, Cavite, Mayor-elect Rommel Magbitang was shot dead in front of his own home in the afternoon. The victim, whose name has been withheld pending official confirmation, was one of the active leaders of Magbitang's local campaign. According to the victim's wife, her husband had previously received threats to his life, allegedly connected to the recent election.
